C.1: Sailing on Provincial Tall Ships for Quality in Early Learning and Child Care!
- Description: The Atlantic Provinces have all set sail to support educators in their early learning and child care sectors. Representatives from each province will share how the on-site consultation model has developed and evolved, the tools used, and the results achieved to date. Join us to learn more about the wave of quality sweeping the Atlantic region and the honour brought to childhood!
- Presenters: Dixie Mitchell is a New Brunswick Child Care Consultant who coordinates the Opening the Door to Quality Child Care and Development Project. Christine MacLean is a Child Care Services Program Consultant in the Department of Health and Community Services in Newfoundland and Labrador. Brenda Goodine works through the MIKE program on Prince Edward Island. Carolyn Webber is the project manager for Partnerships for Inclusion in Nova Scotia.

Learning in the Outdoor Environment/ L’apprentissage en plein air
- Description: This workshop will engage participants in a discussion of outdoor learning, on both creating a space and developing a curriculum that provides for healthy risk taking, developmental challenges, varieties of play and the manipulation of materials and equipment found outside. Participants will have opportunities to share in activities, share ideas and observe documentation of children in outdoor learning projects.
Cet atelier invite les participants à discuter de l’apprentissage en plein air, aussi bien pour ce qui est de créer un espace que pour ce qui est d’élaborer un programme prévoyant un certain niveau de prise de risques en toute sécurité, des défis sur le plan du développement, des jeux de toutes sortes et la manipulation de matériel et d’équipement disponibles en plein air. Les participants auront l’occasion de prendre part à des activités, de mettre en commun leurs idées et d’examiner des documents représentant des enfants dans des projets d’apprentissage en plein air.
- Presenters: Sally Kotsopoulos is the Manager of the Ryerson Early Learning Centre. Anthony Randall is the kindergarten teacher at Ryerson Early Learning Centre. Sally and Anthony co-wrote The Outdoor Curriculum with another staff member.

C.3:Safe Spaces: Creating Caring Environments for Pre-School Aged Children
- Description: Research shows us that older children and youth who commit acts of violence often show indications of poor social relationships as early as age 3. This workshop will provide information on current bullying research and demonstrate how Safe Spaces, and exciting prevention program, shows a great promise as an effective way to encourage children along the pathway to positive relationships.
- Presenter: Maria E. Ressel, B Ed., ECE has more than 10 years experience in training child care professionals from a variety of settings and working with families from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. She is Director of Services at Westcoast Child Care Resource Centre and an experienced Safe Spaces Trainer.

C.4: Launching New Learning Kit: Language and Literacy begin at birth…and last a lifetime!
- Description: In a follow-up to the keynote address by Dr. Donald Jamieson, this workshop will link the research on language and literacy development to best practice in early childhood settings. The Canadian Child Care Federation and The Canadian Language and Literacy Research Network have partnered on the development of a learning kit that can be used for professional development, for presentations at conferences, and for education and training in college programs.
- Presenters: Anne Maxwell is the Senior Director of Projects Programs and Services, Canadian Child Care Federation. She has directed the development of many training and professional development resources in support of best practices. Lana Crossman is Publications Manager, Canadian Child Care Federation.

C.5:Partnering With Parents: Fact or Fiction?
- Description: According to research, effective family-teacher relationships are the cornerstone of best practice. Most parent manuals of early childhood programs discuss the importance of building these partnerships. In this workshop we will assess our current practices in terms of supporting families and creating strong relationships, while considering research as we address practical issues.
- Presenter: Jane Cawley is the Executive Director of St. Joseph's College of Early Childhood Education in Halifax. She has over 35 years experience in the field of early childhood education as a teacher of young children, an ECE administrator and an adult educator.

Navigate with Precaution in a Chemical World: Strategies for Service Providers

Description: Children spend a great deal of their time in an early learning and child care setting at a time in their lives when they are particularly vulnerable to environmental influences. This workshop will provide information on children's vulnerability to chemical exposures, and simple "child proofing tips" to reduce the risks to preconception, prenatal and child health.

Presenter: Myriam Beaulne is the Health Promotion Coordinator for the Canadian Partnership for Children's Health and Environment. She has many years of experience in environmental toxicology, ecology, scientific studies and environmental law.

C.7: Les relations interpersonnelles entre le service à l’enfance et l’école…c’est la base d’un bon partenariat.
- Pour le personnel des centres préscolaires situés dans une école, les aptitudes de communication et de collaboration sont essentielles. Cet atelier présentera l’importance du travail d’équipe et du partenariat avec la direction de l’école, le personnel enseignant, les concierges sans oublier les parents qui sont les premiers éducateurs de leurs enfants.

Présentateur: Sabine Cantave a graduée en Garde éducative à l`enfance en 1996. Elle a aussi un certificat en animation. Elle a eu la chance de travailler dans plusieurs centres et programmes variés ou elle a acquis beaucoup d`expérience.. Elle occupe présentement un poste d`éducatrice en chef au Centre l`Étoile filante à Ottawa ou elle partage son temps entre les travaux administratifs et les enfants d`age scolaire. Elle a du surmonter plusieurs obstacles en travaillant en partenariat evec les enseignants et les autres membres du centre et de l`école
